There are different styles of photography and this field has advanced in every aspect, be it quality, editing, or digitalization. Close up photography is a genre wherein digitalization is utilized fully. It is also sometimes known, although incorrectly, as macro photography. Close up images are appreciated by most people as it opens the world of magnified subjects captured in the camera lens which is very difficult to be viewed by the naked eye. There are several people who want to try out their hand in photography and have taken up courses on close up photography. It is an expensive process that involves a lot practice as well as training. This process uses close up filters which are quite expensive. The good news is that with the right information you can properly channelize your finances in the purchasing the equipment required in this field.

1. Purchase a compact camera with a macro feature.

Buy a compact camera which has a macro feature. The ultimate macro feature would be the one that has a ratio of 1:1. But a standard macro feature camera should be sufficient for you to experience the world of “close up”. This kind of photography requires the photographer to get up close to their subjects. Hence, just make sure how close to your subject you can get with your camera before buying it. It is always advisable to test the camera at the store itself before purchasing. This will save you a lot of trouble.

2. Close up filters for your compact camera

These days manufacturers of compact cameras also provide a wide range of accessories. But before you buy such accessories make sure that they are compatible with your camera. You can also purchase close up filters which can be attached to the end of the camera’s lens. There are some cameras that can conveniently work with the smallest filters for a DSLR.

3. Close up filters

These days most digital SLR lenses come with a screw thread which can comfortably work with either your camera’s brand of close up filters or any other generic brand too. Such filters help you to get closer to your subject, than you would have if you used just the lens. These are available in three pieces set which can be used to adjust the focal length of the camera. You can either use a single lens at a time or even use a combination of lenses as and when desired. The quality of the image depends directly on the quality of the filters used. If you use good filters no doubt then that the image quality will be equally good.

4. Extension tubes

Extension tubes are glass free objects that are placed between the camera and the lens. These don’t interfere with the light. Their main function is to increase the distance between the rear element of the lens and the sensor. This decreases the distance between the camera and the subject (the focal length of the camera). Just like the lenses they are also available in a three pieces set. The length of each extension tube is different from the other. You can try using various combinations of these tubes to give you the desired focal length. Interestingly, these tubes are available at reasonable rates.

5. SLR lens with a macro feature

This is a close up a feature rather than a macro feature. A true macro lens is very expensive and hence, you can use this as a replacement as this helps you to get quite close to your subject.

Hence, we see that all the above methods are helpful in minimizing the cost incurred for close up photography. To make it a career you must also know that photographers spend just a small fraction of their time clicking pictures. The majority of their time is taken up by editing the photographs and trying to make business with them.
