Do you ever find yourself saying you don t have money because you have kids? Many of us have the Poor Dad mindset without even realizing it. This article will help you start saying you MUST have money BECAUSE you have kids! The Rich Dad mindset is the most interesting perspective I ve ever read about and it has definitely changed my thinking. I hope it can help change yours too.
It all started when a friend of mine, who is an avid reader and self made millionaire, recommended the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki to me. I am a father of 3 girls and for years I struggled to have more money than month. My wife is a penny pincher yet no amount of budgeting or cutting back on what we spent seemed to help our vicious cycle. Like any parents, we wanted to be able to leave our children with a strong legacy. As far as character, family and faith go, we were right on track. But leaving our girls a financial legacy, well, that was a different story.
Thank goodness we read this book. We don t even really like to read and we loved this book! Robert Kiyosaki reveals his true life story about his two Dads...each one with an extremely different perspective on money. One had a rich mindset and one had a poor mindset. We found it fascinating to read how his rich Dad dropped out of school at 13 and is now one of the most wealthy men in Hawaii. On the contrary, his poor Dad had a PhD and was a Superintendent of Education but never had enough money to make it to the end of the month and died broke .
Robert s poor Dad told him the reason he wasn t rich was because he had kids. On the contrary, his rich Dad told him the reason he must be rich is because he had kids. One told him to study hard so he could find a good company to work for...the other told him to study hard so he could find a good company to buy. The book is filled with examples like this. I think my all time favorite example is how Robert s poor Dad always told him that money was the root of all evil and never allowed anybody to talk about money at the dinner table. His rich Dad told him the exact opposite. He said that NOT having money was the root of all evil and money was almost always a topic of conversation during mealtimes.
If you asked me point blank if I had a poor Dad mindset, I would have give you an emphatic NO! as my answer but after reading this book, my eyes were really opened. It has been extremely beneficial for me to identify my poor thinking and grab hold of rich thinking. Mindset is everything.
Although hard work and an education are extremely valuable, they can be even more valuable if they are combined with the rich mindset. Whether you ever read the book or not, you should still take the time to determine what your own mindset is. If you re like us, you ll grab hold of the Rich Dad mindset, feel completely driven and there ll be no turning back whatsoever.
